TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - As they have all season, Jemissa Hess and Magin Kebert paced the NC State women's cross country team Monday as the Wolfpack took 14th overall in the team standings at the NCAA Cross Country Championships at Indiana State University.
The finish was below expectations for the Pack, which entered the race ranked seventh nationally. The Wolfpack ran exceptionally well on the same 6k course on October 15 at the Pre-Nationals, taking fourth in the Pre-Nationals Blue race and finishing seventh overall in unofficial combined results from the two races held that day.
The results were different on Monday, at least for the Wolfpack. Stanford, which won the Pre-Nationals Blue race, won the national champioship Monday with a team score of 146. Colorado was second at 181, followed by No. 1-ranked Duke at 185. Arizona State (191), Illinois (212), Michigan (250), Notre Dame (252), Brigham Young (288), Minnesota (361) and Oklahoma State (377) rounded out the top 10. NC State had a team score of 406.
Hess finished the course in a time of 20:51, four seconds ahead of Kebert. Sophomore Angelina Blackmon was 78th at 21:13, freshman Brittany Tinsley was 99th at 21:24, and redshirt-sophomore Sara Powell was 123rd at 21:42.
