Men's Tennis Wraps Up Stay at USC Fall Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - On Saturday, Oct. 15, three members of the NC State men's tennis team took to the courts in Columbia, S.C., on the second day of competition at the University of South Carolina Fall Invitational. Senior Will Shaw and junior Andre Iriarte collected singles wins against competition, while freshman Jay Weinacker picked up a decision by default. NC State exits the tournament with six wins in two days.
Iriarte entered the day paired against Franklyn Emmanuel of FMU in the Flight B-1 main draw round of 16. Iriarte took care of Emmanuel in two sets, 6-2, 7-5, before losing to Clemson's Kevin Fleck in the quarterfinals in a closely contested bout. After dropping the first frame, Iriarte shut out Fleck in the second set, before ultimately falling, 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.
In the first round of the Flight A-1 singles consolation draw, Shaw downed Elliott Quibell of Coastal Carolina in two blistering sets, 6-1, 6-4. Moving to the quarterfinals, Shaw was bested by Clemson's Clint Boling, 7-5, 6-1.
Weinacker received a win by default over FMU's Igor Prielozny in the first round of Flight B-1 consolation singles. In the quarterfinals, Ananda Sawmynaden of the Citadel split the first two sets with Weinacker, before beating the Alabama native in a tiebreak for the match, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0(5).
Shaw and Weinacker fell to FMU's Emmanuel and Dananjayz Mayadunne, 8-5, in the Flight B-1 doubles semifinals.
The Wolfpack will wrap up its fall schedule at the Wilson/ITA Mideast Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. The tournament is slated to run Wednesday, Oct. 19, through Monday, Oct. 24.
