Women's Hoops Takes on Clemson Next

NC State travels to Clemson for its first road Atlantic Coast Conference game of the season. The Wolfpack is 1-0 in ACC action after defeating Wake Forest at home, Jan. 3. NC State, 12-2 overall, will tip off against the Tigers, 6-6, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 9. The game is the first ACC contest for Clemson. The game can be heard live on WKNC 88.1 FM, 1230 AM, 106.1 FM in Charlotte and on XM Satellite Radio, 183 (Clemson's radio will provide that broadcast). Patrick Kinas and Kerby Court will go live 15 minutes before tip-off.
This meeting marks the 68th time the Tigers and Wolfpack have tangled, 28th all-time at Clemson. The Pack leads the overall series, 41-26, but Clemson is 16-11 when NC State is visiting. NC State has won the last two meetings overall, but has fallen in the last three games at Clemson, having not won in Littlejohn since Feb. 4, 2001.
NC State is fresh off its fourth consecutive victory and third on the road after upsetting No. 12 Vanderbilt in Nashville, 65-64 on Thursday. Junior Rachel Stockdale hit four three pointers and led the game with 16 points. Entering the game, the Wolfpack has three players averaging double figures, including junior Tiffany Stansbury, sophomore Ashley Key and junior Billie McDowell. Stansbury leads the trio with 11.6 points per game and also has a team-best 7.6 rebounds per game. Key is second with 10.3 ppg and McDowell is third with 10.1 ppg. Senior Kendra Bell is feeding NC State's scorers with a team-best 2.86 steals per game. Freshman Khadijah Whittington has tallied 38 points, 25 rebounds and five assists off the bench in the last four games. She played a season-best 29 minutes in the win at Vanderbilt. She is sixth on the team in scoring with an average of 6.6 ppg and has 4.0 rpg in just under 16 minutes of PT.
Sunday's meeting marks the ACC opener for the Clemson Tigers and the 68th all-time meeting with NC State. Clemson has had the last week off in preparation of its conference opener. NC State will compete in its first ACC road contest when it travels to face Clemson on Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. in Clemson, S.C. The Pack has lost its last three games in Littlejohn Coliseum. NC State is 41-26 all-time against Clemson and 11-16 on the road. The Tigers are led by two juniors in Reggie Maddox and Amanda White. Maddox is averaging 10.4 ppg at the guard spot and also has a team-high 50 assists and 23 steals. White is bringing in a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game and leads the squad in blocks with 17. Clemson has won its last three home games and is 4-2 overall in Littlejohn. A 71-62 at home over Georgetown ended a two-game skid overall. The Tigers had won four-straight before falling to Rutgers, 66-51 and then at Ole Miss, 67-54.
The Tigers are led by 18th year head coach Jim Davis. Davis is 353-183 (.658) at Clemson and 372-191 (.661) after 19 years of coaching. He spent one year at Middle Tennessee State, where he led MTS to a record of 19-8 In her 34 years as a head coach, Yow owns a record of 665-302 (.688)and is 608-283 (.683) in her 30 years at NC State.
NC State returns home to face in-state conference rival, No. 4 North Carolina, 12-1, on Friday, Jan. 14. The game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and is to be televised on FOX Sports Net South. The Wolfpack leads the all-time series, 48-28 and is 24-6 at home against the Tar Heels. However, the Heels have won the last three meetings in Reynolds.
