RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State (15-4, 4-2) broke into the Associated Press Top 25 after knocking off No. 23 Virginia Tech and No. 16 Maryland en route to a 3-0 slate this last week. The two road wins also marked an end to the Hokies' and Terrapins' home winning streaks. The Wolfpack's 67-55 upset in College Park, Md., marked the first win at Maryland since 2002 and first in the Comcast Center. The Wolfpack also sandwiched in a 73-59 win against Miami at home on Jan. 20. NC State has earned all three of its upset victories on the road, which included an earlier defeat of No. 12 Vanderbilt in Nashville on Jan. 6. The win there also ended a 43 non-conference home winning streak for the Commodores. "It feels great, because to not start out in the poll and not even have a vote, then to just work your way up, it takes a great effort," coach Kay Yow said. "I think you have to do some special things, and I said at the beginning of the season, this is a special team."
North Carolina State stepped into the No. 25 spot for the first time since December 17, 2001.
The Wolfpack has this week off from ACC action, but returns on Sunday, Jan. 30 to host No. 1 Duke at 1 p.m.
