RALEIGH, N.C. - On Friday, Jan. 21, the NC State women's tennis team will kick-start their spring season at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga. Hosted by the University of Georgia, the three-day event will feature mock dual matches in a round-robin format. In addition to the Pack and the hosting Bulldogs, Mississippi State and Georgia State will also participate. While the matches will count towards players records, teams scores will not be kept.
In the recently released pre-season rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the University of Georgia was ranked No. 13 overall, while Mississippi State was placed at No. 69. North Carolina State and Georgia State will both use the early-spring event as a way to catapult themselves into the national picture. Wolfpack junior, and returning All-ACC performer, Barbara Orlay begins the spring season ranked No. 121 in singles action by the ITA.
Following this weekend's tournament, NC State will return home and indulge in a week of practice before hosting two home meets next Saturday, Jan. 29, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on campus. The Wolfpack will welcome Appalachian State at 11 am, before taking on Western Carolina at 5 pm.
