RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State senior Kaayla Chones has been selected as a participant in the 2004 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp. The camp, which will take place April 7-8 at the Madison Square Garden Training Center in Tarrytown, NY, will include 25 players from over 20 colleges and universities. Players attending the combine will have the opportunity to present their skills before representatives of all 13 WNBA teams just in time for the draft, which will be held on Saturday, April 17. Chones is one of only two participants from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), along with Candace Sutton of North Carolina.
Chones, a three-time all ACC team member and two-time all ACC Tournament participant, ended her four year stint at NC State in the top 15 of 14 all-time statistical categories. Among those are scoring average, career double-doubles, rebounds, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and blocked shots. During her senior campaign, Chones was tabbed as a Kodak/WBCA All-America Semifinalist and a WBCA Preseason Wade Trophy Candidate. Chones lead the team in scoring on the season, with 14.8 points per game, as well as steals with 34. As the only player to start every game this season, Chones recorded eight double-doubles and collected 26 double figure outings. Chones finishes her career as the Wolfpack's sixth all-time best rebounder with 894 boards and is ranked 11th in all-time scoring with 1,538 points.
The Wolfpack program has seen nine former standouts join the ranks of the WNBA. Tynesha Lewis is currently with the Charlotte Sting and Chasity Melvin recently joined the Washington Mystics.
