NC State women's basketball will host its second of three consecutive home games this Saturday, Dec 4. The Wolfpack and UAB tip-off at 2 p.m., in Reynolds Coliseum. NC State is currently riding a three-game winning streak and owns a 4-1 overall record. The Blazers are 1-5 and have lost the last two contests. The game can be heard on 88.1 FM or 1230 AM or by visiting gopack.com for live audio and gametracker. It will be the first meeting between the two teams. NC State is 40-3 all-time versus Conference USA.
The Wolfpack is fresh off a 65-36 rout of Seton Hall on Thursday, Dec. 2, that gave head coach Kay Yow her 600th win at NC State. The milestone put her among a short list, but company as she is now the fourth coach in NCAA division I women's basketball history to accomplish such a task. Junior Billie McDowell leads the Pack with her 10.8 points per game, but is among three total on the Wolfpack roster currently averaging double figures. Sophomore Marquetta Dickens has reached double figures in each of the last two games is second on the team with 10.6 ppg. Junior Tiffany Stansbury is third in scoring, 10.0 ppg, and leads the Pack with 9.0 rebounds per game.
UAB is directed by first year head coach Audra Smith, formerly an assistant under Debbie Ryan at Virginia. The Blazers have just one win this season, a close 66-65 victory over Holy Cross back on Nov. 26. Since then, UAB has dropped two-straight, including an 82-57 loss at Colorado State and an 80-70 loss to UT Chattanooga on Dec. 1. Of its small nine-woman rotation, UAB has three players averaging double figures. Sophomore Carmen Guzman leads with 14.5 ppg and 4.0 rpg. Sophomore guard Crystal McFadden leads all Blazers rebounders with 6.5 rpg and also is averaging 11.8 ppg. Freshman guard Lauren Brittingham is second on the roster with her 13.0 ppg.
NC State will take the next week off from competition to prepare for and take final exams for the fall semester. The next game is set for Sunday, Dec. 12, against Fordham at 2 p.m., in Reynolds Coliseum.
