Men's tennis head coach Jon Choboy has announced the signings of two standout players for the 2005-06 season. Jay Weinaker of Mountain Brook, Alabama and Christian Welte of Moylan, Pennsylvania are the latest additions to NC State's arsenal for next season. The Wolfpack will lose only one player after this season, as standout Conor Taylor will graduate. With the signing of this class, NC State continues to serve notice that the Wolfpack is quickly becoming one of the the fastest rising programs in the country.

Jay Weinaker hails from the deep south of Mountain Brook, Alabama, and he brings an impressive set of credentials to the Wolfpack program out of the gate. He is highly regarded as one of the best players in the south and across the country, and he backed up that standing with an impressive run in October. Weinaker won the southern designated 18 and under tournament that was held in Raleigh at the Millbrook Exchange Park. He swept through the tournament and won the title without dropping a single set. During the summer of 2004, Weinaker won four rounds at the U.S. National Hard Court Championships.
Christian Welte will run with the Wolfpack after a standout career in the U.S. and internationally. Welte, from Moylan, Pennsylvania, has advanced to the quarters and semis of several International Tennis Federation (ITF) events around the world over the last 18 months. He is the top player in the USTA Middle States section, and is currently ranked 268 in the world by the ITF. In addition, Welte won the United States Clay Court Doubles Championship in 2003.

"We could not be more pleased with the signings of Jay and Christian," Choboy said. "We had very high goals and expectations heading into 2004-05 recruiting period and we accomplished our goals. Jay and Christian are two very highly ranked and respected American junior players. They are both excellent athletes with Christian even receiving recruiting letters from Division I basketball programs. Most importantly, both Christian and Jay are excellent students with tremendous character that will continue the tradition of the Wolfpack men's tennis team members receiving ACC Honor Roll honors as well as the 2004 ACC Sportsmanship award."
