RALEIGH, N.C. - On Friday, Oct. 1, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association recognized university softball programs with exceptional cumulative-team GPA scores. On the list, the Wolfpack softball team ranked ranked 56th among Division I teams with a cumulative-team GPA of 3.116. NC State's showing on the list was the highest of any institution in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The University of Virginia placed 73rd on the list and was the only other ACC school to be recognized.
"I think that the kids did well academically overall," said head coach Lisa Navas. "Having to deal with a first year program, but also getting their work done in the classroom is very commendable."
The Wolfpack softball team will continue their fall slate this weekend as they play host to 11 teams at the NC State Fall Tournament. The tournament will take place at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C. The Pack will kick off the tournament on Field 1 against UNC-Pembroke at 10 am on Saturday, Oct. 9. Other teams scheduled to appear at the tournament include Greensboro College, Pfeiffer, Lees McRae, Peace, Belmont Abbey, Queens, Mt. Olive, Methodist, East Carolina and Chowan.
