RALEIGH, N.C. -- Led by outside hitter Lauren Sauer's match-high 18 kills, Georgia Tech defeated NC State, 3-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum. The loss now drops the Wolfpack to 10-13 overall, 0-9 in conference play, while the Yellow Jackets move up to 15-5, 9-0 in the ACC.
In the first game of the evening, NC State hung close to Tech early on, but the Jackets would begin to pull away due in part to a 13-6 run that made the score 18-10. The Pack would try to claw its way back, but the hole was too deep as Georgia Tech went on to win, 30-18. Then in game two, more of the same happened. NC State appeared to be on track, taking an early 3-0 lead, but then the Jackets managed to take over the lead with a 8-1 run, and never looked back as they went up 2-0 in the match with a 30-16 win. Tech came out of the short intermission to start game three with a 5-0 run. The Wolfpack again tried to counter but came up short, 30-16.
Junior middle blocker Stefani Eddins led NC State with 11 kills off a .333 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, senior outside hitter Melanie Rowe and junior middle blocker Adeola Kosoko tacked on another four kills a piece.
