RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State senior outside hitter Melanie Rowe recorded a team-high 17 kills off a .343 hitting percentage, but it wasn't enough for the Wolfpack Saturday night, as the Clemson Tigers took a 3-0 (30-23, 30-23, 30-23) Atlantic Coast Conference victory over NC State at Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack now falls to 10-14 overall, 0-10 in the conference, while the Tigers improve to 14-9, 5-5 in ACC play.
Clemson went on a 10-2 run to start game one, but NC State managed a short 5-1 run of its own to make the score 11-6 in favor of the Tigers. The Wolfpack would claw its way back later on, pulling within five points, but that would be as close as it could get, falling by the score of 30-23. In game two, it was NC State that took the early lead, 11-6, only to have Clemson reclaim it shortly thereafter. The Tigers would finish the game on a 9-7 run to win, 30-23. In the final contest of the night, Clemson moved out to a 11-8 run and then increased their lead even more with a 7-3 lead that saw the score go to 18-11. The Pack would make a comeback, but couldn't overcome the hole it had already fallen into, suffering another loss, 30-23.
In addition to the play of Rowe, junior middle blocker Adeola Kosoko finished the night with nine kills off a .348 hitting percentage, and fellow junior middle blocker Stefani Eddins picked up 12 digs and seven block assists defensively. Freshman libero Andrea Bentley again led the team in digs with 13, while freshman setter Lauren Markowski dished out 38 assists.
Outside hitters Leslie Finn and Brittany Ross led the Tigers with 19 and 12 kills respectively. Finn also picked up 12 digs on the night, while libero Anna Vallinch led Clemson with a match-high 17 digs. Setters Courtney Lawrence and Stephanie Haskell helped anchor the offense with 22 and 16 assists respectively.
The Wolfpack will now hit the road this coming weekend, when it faces Wake Forest on Friday night, and Duke on Saturday night. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m.
