RALEIGH, N.C. – Former Penn State Defensive Player of the Year and three-time Big Ten champion Kaleena Davidson will join the NC State volleyball staff as an assistant coach, head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney announced.
"Thank you to Megan, her staff, and everyone I had a chance to connect with throughout the interview process. The people and culture at NC State stood out immediately, and I'm thrilled to join the NC State Volleyball family," Davidson said.
Davidson was the starting libero for the Nittany Lions from 2002–05 and stands as the program's second all-time career digs leader in addition to holding several single-match records. She was an All-America honorable mention during her senior season as well as the Nittany Lions' first-ever Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2005.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kaleena Davidson to NC State Volleyball. She brings championship experience as a player and as a coach, a deep understanding of player development, and a relentless work ethic that aligns perfectly with our culture," said Wargo-Kearney. "Her ability to connect with our young women both on and off the court will have an immediate impact on our program. An accomplished libero herself, she will take over our passing and back court defense. She is a tremendous addition to our staff and a perfect fit for where NC State Volleyball is headed."
She joins the Pack after spending the past year at the United States Air Force Academy as the Academic Liaison Director and later as an assistant volleyball coach.
Prior to her time with the Academy, she served as the recruiting coordinator and lead coach for Colorado Juniors for three years. While in Monument, she coordinated all aspects of college recruiting for junior players in addition to coaching youth programs and 16s.
She returned to her alma mater in 2009 to serve as an assistant coach, a role she spent five seasons in. During that time, Penn State won three national championships (2009, 2010, 2013) and four Big Ten championships (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013). She assisted in the development of 10 All-Americans, two National Players of the Year, and the 2011 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
In the fall of 2014, Davidson shifted into an academic role, first serving as a learning and support specialist (2014–16) before rising through the ranks as an academic counselor and student-athlete programming specialist.
After graduating from Penn State, the Mt. Lebanon, Pa., native served as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston. She helped the Cougars to consecutive regular-season Southern Conference championships, in addition to the 2007 tournament title that advanced the squad to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Davidson graduated from Penn State in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in human development and family studies. She later earned her master's degree in higher education in 2015.
Formerly Walters, she is married to NC State assistant strength and conditioning coordinator Cam Davidson, and the couple has two daughters, Ansley and Adalyn.
