Two Distance Runners Advance to Finals

Raleigh, N.C. - The 2003 Outdoor NCAA Championships started last night at California State University in Sacramento, California, and the Wolfpack got off to a good start. Both of NC State's runners qualified for the finals in their respective events.
Andy Smith qualified for the finals of the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase. Smith finished third in his heat, seventh overall, with a time of 8:39.88. Smith will run in the finals Friday night at 8:00 p.m. Renee Gunning qualified for the finals of the women's 5,000 meters. Gunning finished seventh in her heat, 14th overall, with a time of 16:34.35. Gunning will run in the finals Saturday night at 8:40 p.m.
NC State will also be in action tonight with defending national champion Kristin Price running in the 10,000 meters, and Jesse Williams competing in the men's high jump.
