Williams & Smith Advance to NCAA Championships in Track

Freshman Jesse Williams advanced to the NCAA Championships in the men's high jump. Williams, who earned All-American honors during the indoor season, finished second by clearing 7'02.25". Andy Smith also advanced to the NCAA Championships, as he finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 8:42.51. Also in that race, Ricky Brookshire was 21st (9:18.32). In the men's pole vault, David Kessler was 12th (16'01.25") and Eric Hoverstad was 16th (15'07.50"). In the 5,000 meters it was Chad Pearson in 25th place running a 14:33.16, and David Christian was 37th with his time of 15:01.40. Monterrio Adams (400 meters) and Kurtis Marlowe (1,500 meters) each placed 33rd in their event.
On the women's side, Felicia Fant took 10th in the 100 meters (11.73) and 12th in the 200 meters (23.71). Kelly Smoke was 24th in the hammer (159'02.50") and 29th in the shot put (42'05.75"). Smoke's best performance of the day was a 14th place showing in the discus with a heave of 154'11.50". In the 5,000 meters it was Renee Gunning in 12th (16:30.71), Beth Fonner in 16th (16:46.85), and Jenn Modliszewski in 29th (17:49.41). Janelle Vadnais was 28th in the 1,500 meters.
