
Wolfpack Women Drop Match to Tigers, 5-2

Raleigh, N.C. - NC State (3-4) dropped its second straight match with a 5-2 loss at the handsof the Clemson Tigers (9-2) on Friday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Complex. Senior Loni Worsley picked up her second conference win on Friday afternoon, and sophomore Carmen Torres added a point in a strong effort versus the No. 19 Tiger squad.
Clemson struck early by sweeping the doubles matches. The Tigers only allowed one game in doubles action, with Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet downing Myrna Bawono and Torres in the number one match, 8-1.
Worsley continued strong play in singles action on Friday after defeating Duke's No. 37 Saras Arasa on Wednesday. She played a long first set with Daniela Alvarez and prevailed 7-5. Alvarez struck back in the second with a 6-4 win, but Worsley held on in the tiebreaker to pick up her second win in as many matches at the number three spot in the line-up.
Torres was the other victor for the Wolfpack against the Tigers. Her match also went to a tiebreaker after winning the first set. Jayet was nearly unstoppable in the second set, winning 6-1 to force the tiebreak. Torres was the first to 10 and allowed only seven points for the win.
The Wolfpack will travel to Atlanta for a match-up against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Sunday, then head to DeLand, Fla. to face Stetson on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets are 4-2 on the season and enter the match ranked number 26 in the most recent ITA poll.
