ATLANTA - Loni Worsley picked up her third consecutive win in conference singles, and Jennifer Jassawalla added a point in a losing cause versus the No. 28 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in women's tennis action Sunday afternoon. The pair scored the only Wolfpack points on the day, for a 5-2 Georgia Tech decision. With the win, Tech improved to 6-2 overall, while the Wolfpack fell to 3-5, 0-2.
Worsley is undefeated in ACC singles play, and has already matched her conference win output from a year ago after only three matches. Playing as the No. 4 seed, she took a big lead in the first set and allowed Sekita Grant only two games before falling 6-4 in the second. Worsley retaliated in the third with a big 6-3 push to clinch the match. Each of Worsley's conference wins has been decided in a tiebreaker.
Jassawalla claimed her first ACC win of the season, defeating Tech's Kacie Anson in the No. 6 match. Jassawalla couldn't find her grove in the opening set and went down easily, 6-1. She made a valiant comeback in the second to force a tiebreak and finish with the win in a line of 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Catherine Gunn defeated Kristin Lam in straight sets at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4, and teamed with Sekita Grant for an 8-0 victory over Danielle Stadelmann and Carmen Torres at No. 2 doubles. Lam made her first appearance in the Wolfpack line-up since posting a win over Boston. She sat out against Duke and Clemson to nurse knee problems.
Wong knocked off Stadelmann at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-1, and combined with Anderson for an 8-2 win over Lam and Loni Worsley at No. 2 doubles. Myrna Bawono pushed Tech's Kelly Anderson to three sets before falling at the No. 3 singles flight, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. At No. 5 singles, Shosho blanked Torres, 6-0, 6-0. Tech's No. 3 doubles team of Mysti Morris and Annelies Schenk outlasted Bawono and Jennifer Jassawalla, 8-6, to clinch the doubles sweep.
NC State will continue its southern tour as it travels to DeLand, Fla. to face Stetson on Wednesday, March 12 at 2:30 p.m.
