ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Kara Braxton scored 17 points, and Christi Thomas added 14 to help No. 11 Georgia shake off early shooting woes and beat North Carolina State 72-58 Saturday.
Thomas, a 6-foot-5 senior, missed her first eight shots before making five of her last six. Sherill Baker scored 14 points, and Alexis Kendrick added 11 for Georgia (5-1).
Marquetta Dickens had 11 points, and Kaayla Chones scored 10 to lead North Carolina State (3-3).
The Wolfpack had three consecutive 3-pointers by Terah James and Ashley Key to take a 13-4 lead against Georgia, which hit just two of its first 15 field-goal attempts - a continuation of poor shooting from Wednesday's win over Houston.
But a 10-3 run near the end of the first half helped Georgia take a 28-25 halftime lead. Thomas made a pair of baskets on lob passes during the run.
Early in the second half, a pair of short jumpers by Katie Frye and two 3-pointers by Kendrick helped Georgia put together a 13-4 run and build a 43-31 lead with 14:45 to play.
Dickens and James hit back-to-back 3s that cut the margin to 51-42 with 8:39 left. But the Lady Dogs responded with a 12-1 run, sparked by two baskets by Braxton.
Cori Chambers' jumper off an inbounds play gave Georgia a 63-43 lead with four minutes to play and the Wolfpack never seriously threatened after.
The game pitted two of the winningest coaches in women's college basketball history. Georgia's Andy Landers and North Carolina State's Kay Yow have a combined 1,229 wins.
