GREENVILLE, N.C. - Senior Renee Gunning and sophomore Julia Lucas had top-10 finishes to lead the NC State women's cross country team to second place in the 2003 NCAA Southeast Regionals on Saturday.
The Wolfpack ran 4-8-13-18-21 to finish with 64 points, 12 behind North Carolina at 52. The Tar Heels had the top three finishers in the race, paced by senior Shalane Flanagan, who won the individual championship by 17.1 seconds.
Gunning finished fourth and Lucas eighth for the Wolfpack, followed by senior Lucinda Hull in 13th place, sophomore Kristina Roth 18th, and junior Josie Lauber 21st. Freshman Amy Arnold came in 24th and junior Kara Price was 29th.
For the third meet in a row, the Wolfpack was without the services of two-time All-American Kristin Price, who is expected to be back and in the lineup for the NCAA Championships on Monday, November 24 in Waterloo, Iowa, on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa.
The Wolfpack, by virtue of its second-place finish at the Regional Championships, qualified at a team for the national meet.
