Junior middle blocker Maya Mapp and freshman outside hitter Julia Reis recorded 14 and 12 kills respectively to see the NC State volleyball team onto victory Tuesday night at Reynolds Coliseum, 3-0. The match was the last against a non-conference opponent for the Wolfpack and boosted their record to 7-16 overall, while the Camels fell to 2-20 on the year.
NC State came out and dominated offensively in game one, finishing with a .400 team attack percentage compared to Campbell's 0.26. The Wolfpack would win that game by the score of 30-19. More of the same happened in game two, as NC State took the early lead. But the Camels would manage to creep back in and hang around shortly before the Wolfpack closed the door on any comeback opportunity, winning 30-19. Campbell would make for a more competitive game three, but NC State still proved to be too much, as the Wolfpack sealed the sweep with a 30-20 victory.
In addition to her match-high 14 kills, Mapp also had a new career-best .765 attack percentage, while Reis stepped up her play on the defensive side of the net as well with a match-high 18 digs. Senior libero Caroline Frede added 12 digs and freshmen setters Melissa Rabe and Bruna Maraccini shared time once again, dishing out 20 and 18 assists.
The Camels were led by Outside hitter Che Cochrane, who finished with a team-high 11 kills, while fellow outside hitter Tabitha Turner added seven kills of her own. Libero Alissa Brackeen helped lead Campbell's defensive effort with 10 digs, and setters Sarah Dillon and Crystal Hoffman recorded 15 and 13 assists respectively.
Tuesday's match marked the last home match for two weeks, as the Wolfpack will now hit the road in Atlantic Coast Conference play. NC State meets Clemson on Friday and then is on to Georgia Tech for a Saturday night match-up. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
