Pack Women Produce Second Place Finish at Pre-NCAA Meet

WATERLOO, Iowa - No. 6 NC State finished second behind No. 2 Stanford on Saturday in the nation's premier regular season cross country meet. The Wolfpack put together a team score of 101 points with sophomore Julia Lucas leading the way with a time of 20:18. She finished sixth overall. The "B" squad, which participated in the Open race, also finished second. Kara Price won the race to take the top individual honor in that heat with a time of 21:20.
Stanford's Alicia Craig finished first in a time of 19:53, with teammate Sara Bei finishing second. ACC notables finished as follows: Wake Forest - 4th, Florida State - 10th, Maryland - 29th.
Renee Gunning and Josianne Lauber finished in the top 16 for NC State Gunning took 11th and Lauber finished 16th. Lucinda Hull and Kristina Roth completed scoring for the Pack with 28th- and 40th- place finishes, respectively.
True freshman Sara Powell finished 45th and Amy Arnold was close by in 51st.
In the Open heat, the Wolfpack scored all five runners in the top 15, falling just two points behind BYU with a total of 32. Claudin Hull and Erin Swain finished four and five, and Abigail Nelkie finished in 7th. Megan Coombs was 15th.
When NC State returns to the course on Nov. 1, it will look to successfully defend its ACC Championship. The race will be held on the campus of Wake Forest University.
