Coming off the best combined season in school history, the NC State Cross Country teams will travel to South Bend, Indiana for the Adidas Invitational. The event will inaugurate the 2002 season for the teams, which both hope to successfully defend their ACC Championships in November.
"It's an early season meet, and what we're going to do for racing strategy is just run as a group," says Head Coach Rollie Geiger. "This meet will give us a good read into where we are as a program."
Kristin Price and Megan Coombs will return to the lineup for the Wolfpack Women this season. Both finished in the top 15 of the nation meet last season, and led the team to a national runner-up finish. True freshman Julia Lucas is also expected to contribute this weekend. Lucas was a six-time North Carolina 4A State champion. The Charlotte native also won the national championship for the indoor mile.
The men's squad, which also finished in the nation's top 10 last season, will take 10 runners to the event, including returning All-ACC runners Dean Bowker, David Patterson and David Christian. Ricky Brookshire will also lineup for the Wolfpack.
The women's race will begin at 5:15 p.m. central time at the Burke Memorial Golf Course. The men's race will follow, and is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
