
No. 24 Gymnastics Topples Towson Tigers

Raleigh, N.C. - The No. 24 NC State gymnastics team scored its highest team score of the season in defeating the visiting Towson Tigers 194.900-188.650 Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum. The meet marked the Pack's second of four straight home meets, after having the first four meets of the 2002 season all on the road.
Senior Kelli Brown once again led the way for NC State winning the all-around with a season-high score of 39.300. Brown won two of the four events, and now has claimed eight event titles on the season.
The Pack started the meet strong on vault. Brown tied for first on vault with a season-high score of 9.85. Brown tied Kristen Presutti, last weeks EAGL Gymnast of the Week, for the title. Freshman Jessica Campbell set a new personal-best with a 9.7 and finished in fourth place. Fellow freshman Andrea Petrocelli was fifth (9.675), and junior Stephanie Southard took sixth (9.65).
NC State continued its strong season on bars, an event the Pack rank 10th nationally, and claimed the top four spots. Brown won her second event of the day on bars, posting a score of 9.9. Junior Marlyn Madey, who won the bars at last weeks Hearts Invite, placed second with a score of 9.85. Senior Aimee Panton was third with a 9.8, and Southard took fourth (9.775).
Freshman Cori Goldstein was NC State's top finisher on beam, recording a score of 9.8 to finish second. Madey also performed well on beam scoring a 9.775 to take third. Brown and Petrocelli tied for fourth on beam, each recording a 9.725. Towson's Presutti won beam with a 9.825.
Over on floor, senior Aimee Panton won her first event of the season scoring a new personal-best 9.9. Sophomore Alison Bundy also set a new personal-best scoring a 9.875 to finish third. Three Pack gymnasts tied for third all scoring a 9.825, Brown, Madey, and junior Cara Dougherty. Towson's Presutti also tied for first on floor, giving her a third title.
NC State will host the Wolfpack Invitational this Friday night in Reynolds Coliseum at 7:00 p.m. Competing with the Pack in the meet will be Central Michigan, George Washington, James Madison, and North Carolina.
