Wolfpack Women Share ACC Championship With Wake Forest

ATLANTA - For the first time in Atlantic Coast Conference history two teams will share the women's cross country team title, as NC State and Wake Forest tied with 61 points at the 2002 ACC Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday at the Georgia Regional Hospital Cross Country Course.
Virginia tallied 78 points to place third, followed by Duke (Fourth * 81 points), North Carolina (Fifth * 88) and Florida State (Sixth * 134). Maryland (Seventh * 203), Georgia Tech (Eighth * 214) and Clemson (284 * Ninth) rounded out the field.
With the split championship, NC State claims its 20th league title, while Wake Forest earns its first ACC crown.
North Carolina junior Shalene Flanagan posted a time of 20:06.3 on the 6K course to claim her third consecutive individual title. Florida State's Vicky Gill placed second, followed by Kristin Price of NC State. Annie Bersagel of Wake Forest finished fourth, while Clara Horowitz of Duke finished fifth and earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors. Josi Lauber (NC State), Kara Scanlin (Virginia), Risa Rutland (Wake Forest), Kristina Roth (NC State) and Jane Marwell (Virginia) also earned All-ACC accolades.
