Wolfpack Men Repeat As Champions in ACC Cross Country Championships

ATLANTA - The NC State men's cross country team won its second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference title Saturday, as the Wolfpack posted a score of 17 points at the 2002 ACC Men's Cross Country Championships at the Georgia Regional Hospital Cross Country Course. With the victory, NC State has now won seven of the last eight men's championships.
The Wolfpack was followed by Duke, who placed second with 69 points. Virginia finished third with 95 points, while Clemson was fourth with 103 points. Florida State (Fifth * 123 points), Wake Forest (Sixth * 148), North Carolina (Seventh * 187), Maryland (Eighth * 219) and Georgia Tech (Ninth * 243) rounded out the field.
NC State had five of the race's top six finishers, led by 2002 ACC Individual Champion David Patterson, who covered the 8K course in 24:14.2. Clemson's Jason Meany placed fourth to break up a clean sweep by the Wolfpack. Florida State's Joep Tigchelaar and Duke's Michael Hatch, Nick Schneider and Chris Williams rounded out the All-ACC team. NC State's Bryce Ruiz, who placed 20th, was the ACC Freshman of the Year.
