
Track Concludes Action at Kroger Invite

Blacksburg, Va. - After more than a month off, the NC State track & Field team got back to its indoor schedule and competed in the Kroger Invitational this past weekend.
The men's squad also brought home a first place finish on the day. David Patterson won the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:32.74. Dean Bowker was close behind in fourth, running a 14:51.52. In the 3,000 meters, Chad Pearson placed fifth (8:26.32), followed by Andy Smith in sixth (8:28.73).
In the sprints, Tyrone Dozier finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.65. Also in that race, Joseph Brent took 15th (22.32) and Monterrio Adams was 20th (22.57). Brent also took 17th in the 60 meters (7.00), and Dozier was 20th (7.06).
In the throws, Ryan Furlough was fifth in the weight throw, and Randy Cass brought home seventh place finishes in the shot put and weight throw.
The Pack women dominated in the mile, claiming four of the top five spots. Senior Katie Sabino finished first with a time of 4:52.85, followed by Megan Coombs in third (4:53.15), Kristin Price in fourth (4:53.23), and Amy Beykirch in fifth (4:53.47). Price also placed 15th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.94. The distance runners also performed well in the 3,000 meters, taking three spots in the top-10. Beth Fonner ran the 3,000 meters in 9:58.98 for a fifth place finish, while Josie Lauber was sixth (10:02.13) and Kara Price was eighth (10:07.88).
Sophomore Felicia Fant posted a 12th place finish in the 60 meters (7.73) and was 17th in the 200 meters (25.35). Fellow sprinter Renae Robinson was 16th in the 400 meters with a time of 57.48 and fifth in the 600 meters (1:36.80).
In the jumps, senior Katie Bolac finished second in the pole vault with a top mark of 11'11.75", and April Golsby took sixth in the high jump.
NC State will compete next weekend at the Carolina Invitational hosted by North Carolina.
