Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer picked up its first win of the season Wednesday afternoon, a 2-1 victory over visiting Charleston Southern. The Pack came from a goal down early, and now prepares for ACC play this weekend.
The Buccaneers (2-2) notched the first goal only 26 seconds into the contest. Forward Brendon Barry stole a pass deep in NC State territory, and netted a shot behind the Pack defense.
The Pack (1-4) responded at the 32:47 mark, when senior Matt Tabor took the ball to the endline and found freshman Karim Sesay in the box for his first career goal. The two teams went into the half tied at 1-1.
NC State scored the only goal of the second half in the 52nd minute. Sophomore Isreal Mejia and freshman Brock Trejo worked a quick one-two near the penalty area. Trejo then found a wide open Michael Karim at the top of the 18-yard box, and Karim blasted the game winner into the net.
NC State outshot Charleston Southern 16-11 on the day, but it was the Pack's Mitchell Watson who was busy in the nets registering eight saves.
NC State will next host nationally-ranked Clemson this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Method Road.
