Raleigh, N.C. -- The NC State track & field team will send three members to the 2001 Outdoor NCAA Championships to be held this week at Eugene, Ore.
Chris Dugan, a senior from Scottdale, Pa., qualified in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 8:40.83. Dugan currently ranks 8th in the country in that event. Last season, Dugan finished eighth at the NCAA Championships in the steeplechase (8:45.60), and earlier this year during the indoor season Dugan took 11th in the 3,000 meters at the NCAA Championships.
Also qualifying for the men's team is Isaiah Oglesby. Oglesby, a sophomore from Granite Quarry, N.C., will be competing in the hammer throw. Oglesby currently ranks 14th in the country with a top mark of 208'01" on the year. That throw won the ACC Championships, and gave Oglesby a new NC State record. At the Indoor NCAA Championships this year, Oglesby placed 17th in the weight throw.
Competing for the NC State women's team will be Katie Sabino. A junior from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Sabino qualified in the inaugural running of the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase. Sabino won the event at the ACC Championships, and a week later came within 0.01 of a second of notching a NCAA automatic mark with a season-best time of 10:20.01. Sabino finished 13th at last year's NCAA Championships in the 3,000 meters.
The women's 3,000 meter steeplechase prelims will be held Wednesday at 6:25 p.m. The men's prelims for the 3,000 meter steeplechase will be Thursday at 7:15 p.m., and the finals of the hammer throw will also be Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
