Track Preps For ACC Championships

Senior Chris Dugan brought home a first place finish in the 1,500 meters with career-best time of 3:46.13. NC State had five other runners place in the top-10 in the 1,500 meters; Abdul Alzindani was fifth (3:51.50), Devin Swann sixth (3:54.81), Ryan Woods finished seventh (3:55.45), Dean Bowker was eighth (3:55.57), and Scott Wirgau took 10th (4:02.25). Sophomore David Christian also ran well in the distance events, bringing home fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:33.28. In the sprints, Aahmese King was sixth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.81, and Andrew Kerins was also sixth in the 400 hurdles (56.99).
In the field events, NC State’s men recorded three second-place finishes. Sophomore Isaiah Oglesby was second in both the hammer (191’01”) and in the discus (164’03”). Newcomer Jason Vieira was second in the triple jump (45’04”). Randy Cass also had a busy day, taking fifth in the shot put (48’08”), sixth in the hammer (161’03”), and seventh in the discus (139’09”). Ryan Furlough also posted three top-10 finishes with fourth place finishes in the hammer (175’03”) and javelin (153’03”), and he took seventh in the shot put (46’01”). Senior Zach Whitlow was 3rd in the pole vault with a mark of 16’00”.
The women’s team also posted many top-10 finished. In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Diana Henderson had the Pack’s top finish by placing second with a time of 10:01.80. Junior Beth Kraft was close behind, bring home third place (10:03.71) in the 3,000 meters. Sprinter Renae Robinson posted a sixth place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 57.18, and senior Annemarie Clark also had a sixth place finish with hers in the pole vault (10’06”). Fellow senior Patricia Watson was 10th in the hemmer (129’05”).
The Pack will head to Orlando, Fla., to compete at the 2001 Outdoor ACC Championships this Friday and Saturday.
