Day One of Adidas Raleigh Relays Wraps Up

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The NC State track & field team is hosting its lone outdoor meet of the 2001 season this weekend, the Adidas Raleigh Relays. In Friday's action, the preliminaries of the 100 meters, the 100 hurdles and 110 hurdles were held. Among the running event finals were the 400 meters, the 400 hurdles, the 4x1500 meter relay, the 1600 meter sprint medley, the 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters. In the field events, the discus, the high jump, and the long jump were all held today.
NC State's Katie Sabino posted an NCAA provisional mark in the 5,000 meters with her time of 16:22.87, which was good enough for second place. Teammate Amy Beykirch was close behind as she placed eighth in that race (16:48.09), as was Diana Henderson in 19th (17:12.11).
Freshman Felicia Fant recorded a 13th place finish in the 100 meters (12.08) to lead the way for the Pack's sprinters. Senior Annemarie Clark placed 25th in the 400 meters with a time of 57.79.
For the Pack's mens team, sophomore Isaiah Oglesby recorded the top finish. Oglesby, the reigning ACC Performer of the Week, notched a second place finish in the discus with a personal-best mark of 166'04". Freshman James Rowell finished 16th in the discus with his toss of 149'10".
The men's sprinters also did well on the day, recording many top-20 finishes. Junior Joseph Brent started the day off with a 14th place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 10.79. Sophomore Aahmese King was close behind finishing 18th (10.85). Also, freshman Monterrio Adams placed 13th in the 400 meters with a time of 47.91. In the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Andrew Kerins took 20th with a time of 54.69.
Abdul Alzindani posted a 10th place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:19.49 to conclude action on the day. Also in that race, David Patterson was 16th (14:31.26) and Devin Swann was 20th (14:37.28).
Action will resume tomorrow morning with the 3,000 meter steeplechase set for 10:30 a.m. The meet will run all day, and will conclude with the 4x400 meter relays for the men at 4:20 p.m. and 4:50 p.m. for the women.
