Track Takes Part in Gator Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The NC State track & field squad competed at the prestigious Gator Invitational this past weekend, held at the University of Florida.
Senior Chris Dugan brought home a first place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:04.29. That time is a NCAA provisional time, and is only four seconds away from an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Along with Dugan, several other Pack runners performed well in the 3,000 meters. Abdul Alzindani finished fifth with a time of 8:24.38. A trio of Pack runners were finished together: John Huber took 14th (8:37.55), David Patterson placed 8:39.25, and Devin Swann was 16th (8:39.98). In addition, Joe Iatauro took 19th (8:48.47) to give the Wolfpack six runners in the top-20 overall.
Sophomore Isaiah Oglesby continued his success in the indoor season with another first place finish in the weight throw. Oglesby recorded a season-best mark of 63'11", and recorded his third NCAA provisional mark of the season.
Other top results saw Scott Wirgau capture seventh place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:32.98, Joseph Brent place 23rd in the 55 meters (6.57), and Monterrio Adams was 22nd in the 400 meters (49.74).
The women's team also saw their fair share of top results. In the 3,000 meters, a pair of Pack runners placed in the top-10. Diana Henderson brought home a fifth place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:02.52. Teammate Beth Kraft took 10th with a time of 10:26.39. Annmarie Clark matched Henderson's fifth place finish, with hers coming in the pole vault (11'06.25").
Sara Graybill captured 12th place in the mile with a time of 5:03.48, and also took 26th in the 800 meters (2:23.32). Molly Purser also competed in those same tow events, and finished 15th in the mile (5:06.92) and 22nd in the 800 meters (2:21.66). Yvonne Downing also performed well in the mile, finish 19th with a time of 5:14.92.
NC State will return to action next week, by traveling up to Blacksburg, Va., to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational.
