Wolfpack Cross Country Shines At NCAA Pre-Nationals

Greenville, S.C.-NC State's nationally-ranked cross country programs made a big splash Saturday by turning in second and third place finishes in their respective heats at the NCAA Pre-National meet in Greenville, S.C.
The third-ranked women finished third (142 points) in the "Silver" race behind second-ranked Stanford (72 points) and fourth-ranked BYU (74 points).
They were led on the day by Katie Sabino (13th) and Megan Coombs (14th), both of whom crossed the finish line with a mark of 21:18. Kristin Price was the next highest finisher for NC State with a 17th-place showing (21:22), followed by Beth Fonner (25th, 21:40), Beth Kraft (73rd, 22:32), Josianne Lauber (102nd, 22:54) and Janelle Vadnais (151st, 23:38). All-American Christy Nichols did not compete in the event.
The ninth-ranked men took second (94 points) in the "Black" race behind second-ranked Stanford (56 points). The men also defeated eighth-ranked Northern Arizona (3rd, 136 points).
All-American Chris Dugan led the Wolfpack charge with a fourth overall showing (24:36), while Chad Pearson (12th, 24:54) and Chris Seaton (13th, 24:55) also posted top-15 finishes. All-American Andy Smith took 32nd overall (25:22), followed closely by teammate David Christian in 33rd (25:23). Ricky Brookshire also finished 140th overall (26:47) to round out the competitors for the Wolfpack.
The Wolfpack will be out of action until Oct. 27th when it travels to Clemson for the ACC Championships.
