Track Kicks Off Outdoor Season

Charlotte, N.C. (March 18) - The NC State track and field team kicked off its 2000 outdoor season by participating in the UNC-Charlotte Invitational this past week in Charlotte, N.C.
Sophomore Joseph Brent got off to a fast start to the outdoor season. Brent took home a first place finish in the 200 meters (22.26), and also finished fifth in the 100 meters (10.93). Fellow sophomore Oliver Gatchalain finished third in the 400 hurdles (54.06) and 19th in the 100 meters (11.26). Randy Cass took part in three different throwing events, and placed fifth in the shot put (46'6"), sixth in the hammer throw (151'10"), and also 12 in the discus throw (126'3").
On the women's side, Senior Victoria Stokes brought home a first place finish. Stokes placed first in the high jump with a mark of 5'04.25". Sophomore Renae Robinson took third in the 800 meters (2:17.25), and 10th in the 400 hurdles (1:09.15). Adrienne Vinson finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.35), as did freshman Brandi Parks in the triple jump (36'04.25"). Teammates Megan Coombs and Beth Kraft placed fourth and fifth in the 1,500 meters.
The Pack will be back in action next weekend, when NC State travels to North Carolina to compete against the Tar Heels. The Pack's first home meet of the season, the Adidas Raleigh Relays, will take place March 31-April 1.
