NC State Men Dominate Sam Bell Invitational

The NC State men, who went relatively unchallenged in the race, finished with an untouchable 19 points. They were led by individual champion Chan Pons, an All-American who breezed through the course in a time of 24:37.8. Senior Abdul Alzindani finished second (2 points), senior All-American Chris Dugan fourth (4 points), senior Corby Pons fifth (5 points), and junior Mike Fitzula seventh (7 points) to complete the team scoring for the Wolfpack. Aaron Saft and Dean Bowker also finished 15th and 17th, respectively.
In team scoring, 24th-ranked Tennessee finished second with a score of 102, followed by South Florida with 117 points, Illinois (162), and Navy (168) to round out the top five.
On the womens side, ninth-ranked NC State (97 points) gave a valiant effort only to fall short to third-ranked Arkansas (22 points). Northwestern University finished third with 138 points. South Florida and 11th-ranked Michigan totaled 143 points to finish in a tie for fourth.
The Wolfpack women were led by junior Amy Beykirch, who finished 11th overall and scored 11 points for NC State. Sophomore Katie Sabino posted a strong showing at 14th, followed by sophomores Beth Fonner and Beth Kraft, finishing 21st and 22nd, respectively. Junior Erin Musson placed 29th to round out the team scoring for NC State. Junior Lindsey Rogers and freshman Alisha Little also finished 33rd and 35th, respectively.
NC State's next cross country meet will be Saturday, October 2 at the Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic in Greensboro, N.C.
