"Cross country provides thousands of athletes an opportunity to participate in a wonderful team sport. It takes a tremendous amount of dedication for the coach as well as the athlete to succeed. We are indebted to all the coaches who make this possible and especially to coach Geiger," USTCA Executive Director Jimmy Carnes said.
Geiger, the 1999 ACC mens Coach of the Year, is in his 18th season at NC State. He led the Wolfpack to the Southeast crown and they enter the national championship ranked third in the country. The top ten is nothing new to Geiger as ten of his 17 teams have earned a top ten national ranking. Geiger has won 20 ACC coach of the year awards in both cross country and track and field and he has coached 33 All-Americans.
NC State's men's and women's squads will compete in the NCAA Championships on Monday, November 22nd at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
