2022 SEASON:
• Reserve safety who had one of the top plays of the season with an acrobatic interception in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl vs. Maryland. He was featured on the “You got Mossed” segment for the play.
• Played a big role on the Wolfpack special teams - he was in for 145 special teams snaps for the season.
2021 SEASON:
• Saw action in every game on special teams, he saw action from scrimmage in six contests.
• Was limited early in 2021 spring drills after shoulder surgery in the fall.
2020 SEASON:
• Suffered a season-ending injury in game two vs. Virginia Tech after starting that contest.
• Did not arrive in Raleigh until August, he quicky learned the defense and had moved into a starter’s job by game 2.
• In his first game, ended up playing 80 snaps in the win over Wake Forest after starting FS Tanner Ingle went out with an injury.
BEFORE NC STATE:
Jones College
• Transferred from Jones Co. College in Mississippi, where he played at safety as a true freshman for coach Steve Buckley.
• Named a first-team All-MACJC selection at safety.
• Finished with 39 tackles, four interceptions, and five PBUs. He was tied for second in the conference and 12th in the NJCAA with his four INTs, two of which came in his first career game.
• Blocked a kick and scored a touchdown vs. Coahoma.
• Started all 10 games as a true freshman and helped team to a 7-3 record and finished ranked 11th in the NJCAA.
• Two-time member of the school’s honor roll.
High School
• Graduated from Choctaw County High School.
• As a senior: Had 17 tackles and three pass breakups on defense. Piled up 877 all-purpose yards (579 rushing, 234 receiving and 64 on kick returns) and 10 touchdowns on offense.
PERSONAL:
• Has a two-year old son: Kamdyn D’shun Ashford.
• Major: Graduated in December of 2022 with a degree in sport management.
