PLAYING EXPERIENCE:
Played defensive back at Glenville State (1991-94), where he was a member of two WVIAC championship teams.
EDUCATION:
Earned a B.A. in interdisciplinary studies from Glenville State in 1994.
PERSONAL:
Born in Van, W.V., on October 12, 1972. Married to the former Kerry Pritt of Glenville, W.V.. Has two children: son Cody, running backs and tight ends coach at Murray State, and daughter Ashton.

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS:
Overall:
- Has coached 27 all-conference players, five All-Americans and 22 players who have gone on to the professional ranks.
At NC State:
- A nominee for the 2021 Broyles Award - given to the nation’s top assistant coach.
- The 2021 NC State defense ranked second in the ACC in scoring defense (19.7 points), third in total defense (331.6 yards), third in rushing defense (124.0 yards), second in passing efficiency defense (111.1) and third in passing yard allowed (207.6 yards).
- The Pack led the ACC with 15 interceptions during the 2021 regular season and finished with the top mark in the ACC in interceptions per game. That mark ranked 14th nationally (sixth during the regular season).
- 10 different NC State players picked off a pass in 2021.
- LB Drake Thomas was a 2021 first-team All-ACC selection and ranked fourth in the ACC with 99 tackles. Safety Tanner Ingle and DT Cory Durden were also first-team All-ACC performers.
- Linebacker Payton Wilson was a first-team All-ACC performer in 2020.
At West Virginia:
- Named one of the nation’s “hottest recruiters” by Street & Smith in 2018.
- In 2018, WVU led the Big 12 and finished sixth in the NCAA with 8.0 tackles for loss per game (96 on the season overall).
- WVU was also 20th in the NCAA in interceptions (15) and total takeaways (24) in 2018. Both marks were second-best in conference.
- Coached LB David Long, Jr., to second-team All-American honors by both the AP and Walter Camp Foundation. Long was the 2018 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Big 12 with 19.0 TFLs and ranking fourth in the conference with 111 total tackles (76 solo stops).
- Safety Kenny Robinson, Jr. was also a Big 12 first-team selection in 2018, finishing second in the conference with four INTs.
- In 2016, Gibson was named the Big 12 Defensive Coordinator of the Year by Athlon as his defense led the Big 12 in scoring defense and total defense.
- In 2015, the Mountaineer defense ranked second nationally in interceptions, fifth in turnovers gained and 11th in 3rd down defense ,while leading the Big 12 in rushing defense, INTs and ranking second in the league in scoring defense and total defense.
- From 2001-07, WVU posted a 58-14 record, advanced to two BCS bowl games and won or shared four Big East titles.
- Recruited 32 players on the 2005 team that won the Big East title and the Sugar Bowl and 40 players on the 2007 Big East Champ/Fiesta Bowl Championship team.
- Known for reopening the “Pittsburgh Pipeline” while recruiting for WVU.
At Arizona:
- Spent one season as assistant head coach.
At Pitt:
- Mentored two All-Big East performers and recruited the nation’s top running back
At Michigan:
- Recruited and signed eventual Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Denard Robinson.
