AUGUSTA, Ga. – Marie Madsen of the NC State women's golf team had the opportunity to be one 72 amateurs in the world to compete at the 2026 Augusta National Women's Amateur. She finished in a tie for 41st with a 1-over 145 (73-72), missing the cut by two strokes.
Madsen executed the back nine well on both days with a 35 on day one and a 33 in round two, but slipped up on the front with a 38 on day one and a 39 in the second round. On Thursday, she started on the back and put herself in a position to make the cut with three birdies and six pars to begin the day. The four bogeys in eight holes through a challenging front nine at Champions Retreat took her out of position to move on to the third round at Augusta National.
Madsen will still be granted the opportunity to play at Augusta National, as she will play in a practice round on Friday.
The NC State women's golf team will play at the ACC Championship from Thursday, April 16 to Sunday, April 19 at Porters Neck Country Club.
