Third-Seeded Pack Sweeps Cal to Advance to ACC Championship Semifinals

CARY, N.C. - No. 13 and third-seeded NC State women's tennis swept No. 21 and sixth-seeded Cal, 4-0, to advance to the semifinal round of the ACC Women's Tennis Championship Friday night at Cary Tennis Park. The bottom half of the Wolfpack's singles lineup led the way, securing wins on courts four, five and six to clinch the victory.
NC State claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Mia Slama and Lavinia Tanasie opened play with a 6-1 victory over Mille Johanna Moerk and Sophie Hernandez, before No. 4 Gabriella Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe clinched the point with a 6-3 win over No. 56 Johanne Svendsen and Mao Mushika.
In singles play, the Pack secured the sweep with straight set wins on the bottom three courts. No. 73 Tanasie put NC State ahead 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Moerk on court four. Jasmine Conway followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Anya Murthy on court five, and Osuigwe sealed the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over No. 113 Naomi Xu on court six.
The win sends NC State to the ACC Championship semifinals for the fourth consecutive season. The Wolfpack will face second-seeded and No. 6 North Carolina, which earned a 4-3 win over NC State earlier this season in nonconference play.
