RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team built an early lead and held off a late push from California to secure a 5–4 victory on Saturday evening at Dail Softball Stadium, clinching the series.

NC State steadily added to its lead throughout the game before fending off a late rally by the Golden Bears in the final frame.

How It Happened

NC State struck first in the opening inning as Lily Livingston launched a two-run home run to center field to give the Pack an early lead.
The Wolfpack added another run in the third on a sacrifice fly from Livingston, extending the lead to 3–0.
California got on the board in the fourth with an RBI single from Emma Jackson to make it 3–1.
NC State responded in the bottom half as Maia Townsend delivered an RBI single to push the lead back to three.
The Pack added an insurance run in the sixth, capitalizing on a California error to take a 5–1 advantage.
California mounted a late rally in the seventh, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Madison Rey and a solo home run earlier in the inning to cut the deficit to one.
With the tying run in scoring position, Morgen Talley entered in relief and recorded the final two outs to secure the 5–4 win.

The five runs scored mark the 22nd time this season the Wolfpack has scored five or more in a game.
NC State recorded 10 hits, posting its second double-digit hit performance in as many games.
Rylee Wyman tossed 6.1 innings to earn her sixth win of the season.
Wyman recorded four strikeouts in the outing.
Livingston led the way with three RBIs, highlighted by a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly.
Sarah Johnson and Ellington Whitaker each recorded two hits for the Pack.
The save marked the first of the season for Talley.
