JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. – Ellie Hildreth of the NC State women's golf team won medalist honors at the Briars Creek Invitational. The win is the first of her career and the fourth time in program history a freshman has won a tournament. NC State also picked up its fourth top five finish of the season, tying for fourth with a 2-over 578 (286-292).
This marks the second straight tournament a member of the Wolfpack has won the individual title with Marie Eline Madsen winning the Daniel Island Invitational two weeks ago.
Due to weather on Monday, the second round was cancelled and the tournament was reduced to 36 holes.
Hildreth finished with a 6-under 138 (68-70). She tied her career-low round in the first with a clean card for a 68, her second round in the 60s this season. This set her up to tie for second going into the final round Tuesday, in which she was solid with six birdies and 10 pars with two double bogeys for a 2-under 70. She jumped to the top of the leaderboard halfway through the final round and maintained her position through the rest of the way. She now has five rounds at par or better and three top 20 finishes. Hildreth led the field with the best par 3s average (2.75) and par 5s average (4.50), as well as the most birdies (10).

She followed that up with a 1-under 71 behind three birdies, 13 pars and two bogeys. Madsen now has 17 rounds at par or better and seven top 20 finishes in eight tournaments this season. Madsen logged the second best par 4s average (3.85) in the field.
Vania Simont earned her third top 20 finish in the four tournaments she has played this spring, finishing in a tie for 16th with an even-par 144 (72-72). In the first round, she had three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars. She followed that up with the same numbers to stay even through the tournament.
