Pack Opens Spring with Fourth Place Finish at Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The NC State men's golf team opened its spring schedule with a fourth place finish out of 20 teams at the Loyola Intercollegiate held at Palm Valley Golf Club.
The Pack shot under par in every round as a team as it posted a final score of 24-under par.
Rylan Shim, making his NC State debut, led the Pack with a third place finish as he shot 12-under for the tourney. Playing as an individual, Shim did not count for NC State's team score.
Shim opened the tournament with a five-under par 67, and then posted a 69 on Monday before closing with a four-under par 68 in the third round Tuesday.
Shim's score of 12-under par ties for the 10th best score in program history related to par. It was last accomplished by a Pack golfer when Michael La Sasso shot 12-under par at the 2023 Dunes and Beach Golf Club.
Pearce Lewin was next for the Pack with a score of 10-under par to finish in a tie for sixth and post the best individual finish of his NC State career. Lewin went under par in every round shooting 68 on Sunday and Monday before a 70 in the final round on Tuesday.
Markus Varjun was two shots back of Lewin in a tie for 14th place. Like his teammates, Varjun also went under par in every round as he shot a 70 in the first round and then had back-to-back rounds of 69 to close the tourney.
Playing as an individual like Shim, Evan Woosley-Reed finished in a tie for 22nd place at four-under par. Woosley-Reed closed the tournament with rounds of 70 and 69 to move up the leaderboard.
Xander Goboy was one shot back of Woosley-Reed in a tie for 25th place. After an even-par 72 to open the tournament, Goboy shot a 70 and 71 in the final two rounds.
Joey Lenane was one shot back of Goboy in a tie for 30th place at two-under par. Lenane started with back-to-back rounds of even-par and then had a 70 in the final round on Tuesday to move up 15 spots on the final day.
Hunter Stetson rounded out the NC State lineup in a tie for 57th place. Stetson saved his best for last as he shot two-under 70 in the final round.
NC State is back in action on March 9 when it begins play at the Johnnie-) held at Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga.
