Pack Struggles to Close Out Game at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The NC State women's basketball team was outscored 23-8 in the fourth quarter, dropping to Clemson, 75-65. Tilda Trygger (19 points and 11 rebounds) and Khamil Pierre (17 points and 11 rebounds) each had double-doubles in the loss.
Clemson broke the Pack's 16-game winning streak over the Tigers.
The Pack started out with a 6-2 lead, as Pierre made two of the Pack's first three baskets. The Tigers then made three straight baskets, but Tilda Trygger answered with a triple.
Zoe Brooks knocked down a 3-pointer and NC State led 14-11 with 4:09 left in the first. That triple by Brooks started an 8-0 run for NC State to lead 19-11, but then Clemson responded with a 6-0 run. Pierre broke the Pack's 2.5 minute scoring drought and NC State led 21-17 after the first.
Clemson opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run to retake the lead. Destiny "Ky'She" Lunan then drained a triple and Pierre came up with a basket off a steal to take a three-point lead. Clemson then charged back for the ninth lead change of the game and NC State trailed 32-31 at the media timeout taken with 3:05 left in the second. Clemson led by as many as four twice in the remaining 1:20 of the quarter, but Brooks beat the buzzer with a tough layup to close the deficit to two, 39-37, at the half.
Qadence Samuels wasted no time in the start of the second half, taking it to the basket for two. Trygger then got going with three straight baskets, helping the Pack open the quarter on a 8-0 run to lead 45-39, and Clemson called a timeout with 7:47 left in the third quarter. The Tigers cut the deficit to one after a 7-0 run and Devyn Quigley stopped a two-minute drought for the Pack with a layup. Samuels delivered a jumper, and Clemson was held scoreless for the remaining two minutes and some change in the quarter. The Pack led 57-52 after three.
NC State was scoreless for the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, and Clemson took advantage with an 11-0 run to lead 63-57 with 5:46 left in the game. NC State called a timeout, down, 63-57. Trygger got the Pack its first basket out of the timeout, but Clemson responded with a triple. NC State continued to struggle in the fourth, being outscored 23-8 in the quarter to drop its first ACC contest of the year, 75-65.
PACK PERFORMERS
- Trygger had her fifth career double-double and second of the season, matching a personal-high 19 points to go with 11 rebounds Â
- Pierre secured her ninth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. She has now scored at least 10 points in the last 11 contests
- Brooks scored in double figures for the 13th time this season, finishing the night with 15 points to go with six assists and four rebounds
- Lunan led the NC State bench with six points
- The Wolfpack shot 90 percent (9-of-10) from the free throw line, its highest percentage at the charity stripe this season
- On the glass, NC State outrebounded Clemson, 38-34

NC State will look to bounce back to face SMU on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
