
Pack Dominates In Four Set Win Over VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – The NC State volleyball team dominated in its 3-1 win at VCU Saturday evening for its first match of the VCU Invite.
The Wolfpack held the Rams to a total of six points in the second set as the Pack hit a season high .789 in the frame.

The Wolfpack will remain in Richmond for the final match of the VCU Invite. The Pack will face Old Dominion at 2pm on Sunday, September 21.

- Freshman opposite Jordan Smith started things off for the Pack as she tallied the first kill of the match. The Rams went on to take a 13-8 lead to force an early timeout by head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney. Out of the timeout, senior outside Courtney Bryant ended the Rams scoring run and picked up her second kill of the outing.
- VCU would increase the lead to six (18-12) to force the Wolfpack to use its final timeout of the opening frame.
- The Pack battled back and tied the opening frame 19-all, eventually going on to take its first lead of the outing, 21-19. The two teams battled back-and-forth, but the Wolfpack came out on top, 25-23.
- The Pack dominated from the start in set two, jumping out to a 8-2 lead, forcing an early Rams timeout.
- NC State would score 10 unanswered points as the Rams struggled in serve-receive. Bryant was behind the service line for nine of the 10 points and picked up three service aces.
- The Pack would close out the second set on a 16-2 scoring run to take the second, 25-6. The Rams six points mark the least by an opponent this season for the Wolfpack. The Pack's .789 hitting percentage in the set marked a season high for the squad in a single frame.
- The third set was a back-and-forth battle for the two programs, as the Rams found a bit of momentum. After VCU jumped out to a three-point lead (11-8), Wargo-Kearney took a timeout in hopes of slowing the Rams and regrouping the Wolfpack.
- The Rams took the third set, 25-19, as the Wolfpack struggled offensively to minimize the deficit.
- The fourth set started as a battle, but the Pack had all the momentum offensively to take the lead. Headed into the media timeout, NC State led 15-12 and would continue to dominate and took the final set, 25-19.
- Bryant tallied her fourth double-double after finishing with 14 kills and 11 digs. She also added four service aces to her stat line, finishing one short of her career high.
- Redshirt-junior setter Elaisa Villar led the setters with 25 assists and added three aces to the books.
- Freshman middle blocker Talia Francom posted a career high and team best eight blocks.
- The win moves NC State to 7-2 overall and in the Wargo-Kearney Era. The win also marked the 823rd in program history and the 19th over the Rams.
The Wolfpack will remain in Richmond for the final match of the VCU Invite. The Pack will face Old Dominion at 2pm on Sunday, September 21.
