NC State Women Claim Adidas XC Challenge Title

CARY, N.C. - The NC State cross country team began its 2025 season Friday night at the adidas XC challenge. The women dominated the field with a commanding first-place finish, while the men earned third place.
Leading the way for the women was senior Hannah Gapes, who claimed the individual title in the 5K with a time of 16:01.8. She was followed by teammates Kate Putman (16:17.9) and Bethany Michalak (16:24.4), giving NC State a sweep of the top three spots. Rounding out the lineup were Briley Bickerstaff (17:10.9), Chandler Welsh (17:15.5), Jolena Quarzo (17:20.9) and Olivia Haas (17:32.7). Their efforts secured a team victory of 38 points, finishing well ahead of North Carolina's 68 points.
On the men's side, Luke Wiley led the Wolfpack in the 6K, clocking 18:11.7 to finish as NC State's top runner. He was followed by Elliott McArthur (18.41.3), Ryan Motondo (18:46.5) and Krister Sjoblad (18:50.9). Also competing for the Wolfpack were Ian Harrison (19:23.2), Patrick Gibbons (19:30.4) and Marco Evans (20:24.9), helping the team secure a third-place finish.

The Wolfpack returns to action on Oct. 3, where the team will split for a pair of meets. One group will travel to Chicago, Ill., for the Sean Loyola Lakefront Invitational, while the other will stay in-state to compete at the ECU Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C.
