RALEIGH – 14th-ranked NC State men's soccer kicked off its 2025 season, and second with Marc Hubbard at the helm, Thursday night with a 2-0 win over Queens at home.
In front of nearly 2,200 fans at the Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh on Thursday night, NC State men's soccer began its season with a 2-0 shutout over Queens in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Pack controlled possession of the game, especially in the final third of the field, acquiring 23 shots with 11 of those being on goal, while Queens only tallied one shot on goal.
After winning USL2 Player of the Year just a few short days ago, it was no surprise for it to be Donavan Phillip to net the first goal of the season for NC State. At the 22nd minute, in his first official match in the red-and-white, Carlos Santamaria fed Taig Healy who sent in a ball to Phillip to work his way in to the top of the box from the corner of the field.
In his collegiate debut nearly 15 minutes later, Riley Moloney sent a ball across the Pack's attacking half to feed Nikola Markovic inside the box who was able to finish the ball in the back of the net and double the lead.
NC State recorded almost as many shots in the second half as in the first half but was unable to ever finish anything, closing out their first game of the season with a 2-0 win.
Nine players for the Pack recorded their first-ever official minutes in the red-and-white. Four of those nine earned the starting nod; Tyler Caton, Ibrahim Conde, Riley Moloney, and Carlos Santamaria
