SINGAPORE – Two-time Olympic gold medalist and Pack Pro Katharine Berkoff added another major accolade to her decorated career on Thursday morning, claiming gold in the 50m backstroke at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships—her first career world title.
Just 48 hours after earning bronze in the 100m backstroke, Berkoff returned to the pool with focus and fire, delivering a commanding performance to top the podium in the sprint backstroke event. The gold marks her 19th combined medal across Olympic and World Aquatics competitions.
Berkoff earned her place on Team USA for Worlds at the U.S. National Championships, where she won the 50m backstroke in record-setting fashion, breaking the American record with a time of 26.97 seconds.
She's joined in Singapore by her former NC State coach, Braden Holloway, who was named head coach of Team USA in May.
