CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Marie Eline Madsen of the NC State women's golf team has been tabbed as a Women's Golf Coaches Association All-America Second Team honoree, as announced by the WGCA Tuesday. Madsen is the first golfer in program history to earn first or second team All-America recognition.
Madsen is coming off a historical freshman season that led her to picking up All-ACC honors and an individual medalist title at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional. The Denmark native broke the school record in single season scoring average at 71.23 and played the fifth most rounds in a season with 35. Madsen finished with 22 rounds at par or better and 11 rounds in the 60s. She tallied 124 birdies and 389 pars.
The freshman finished in the top 10 in eight of her 12 tournament appearances and inside the top 20 in all showings leading up to the NCAA Championship, in which she became the first member of the Pack to qualify as an individual since Lauren Doughtie in 2008. Madsen stands at No. 3 in career all-time wins at NC State after picking up two victories in her freshman season. She became the first NC State freshman since India Clyburn in 2015 to win an individual tournament, carding a 6-under 210 at the ECU Ironwood Invitational and a 5-under 208 at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional. Her career-low 11-under 205 at the Daniel Island Invitational broke the freshman 54-hole record and became the second lowest 54-hole score in school history.Â
Madsen joins Augusta James and Brittany Marchand, who were recognized with WGCA All-America Honorable Mentions nods in 2024, with Madsen also becoming the first to be tabbed to the first or second team in program history.Â
