Pack Falls to Hokies in Five Innings

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team dropped the series opener with No. 13/11 Virginia Tech, 10-2, in five innings Friday evening at Dail Softball Stadium.
The Pack moves to 21-17 on the season and 4-9 in ACC play.

The Wolfpack softball team will return to Dail Softball Stadium on Saturday, April 5 at 5pm for game two against the No. 13/11 Hokies.

How it Happened
- The Hokies wasted no time as they posted four on the board in the opening frame on five hits.
- Freshman Kendall Simmers minimized the Hokies lead in the bottom of the first with a solo rocket to left field to mark her seventh homer of the season.
- The two teams posted zeros on the board in the next two innings but Virginia Tech added two more runs in the top of the fourth to push the lead to five.
- NC State responded in the bottom of the fifth after Hannah Goodwin reached base on a fielding error that allowed Simmers to score to move the score to 6-2.
- Virginia Tech posted four more runs in the top of the fifth a wild pitch and a three-run homer from Cori McMillan pushed the score to 10-2.
- The Pack saw both Ensley sisters walked with two outs in the bottom half of the frame but the Hokies struck out the final Pack batter to end the meeting.
