Pack Takes the Series and Gets 200th Program Shutout in Win Over Eagles

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The NC State softball team picked up the 200th program shutout in a 4-0 win over Boston College Saturday afternoon to secure the series win.Â
The shutout was the seventh of the season and the series win marks the second of the season.
The win also marked th 50th under head coach Lindsay Leftiwch. The Wolfpack moves to 20-11 overall, 4-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.Â
How it Happened
The Pack returns to Harington Athletic Village on Sunday, March 23 for the final game of the series. First pitch is slated for 12pm on ACCNX.Â

How it Happened
- The Eagles posted a hit on the board in the bottom of the first but sophomore right-handed pitcher Carly Maxton picked up two strikeouts to end the frame.Â
- Senior Taylor Ensley worked a full count before smashing a ball down the left field line past the outfield wall to put the Pack on the board. Freshman Kendall Simmers wanted a homer of her own and smashed a ball to right center field.Â
- Graduate Payden Bordeau singled through the right side to mark the third straight hit for the Pack. Hannag Goodwin reached base due to an Eagles' error and Tori Ensley walked to load the bases with one out for Michele Tarpey. The graduate smashed a ball down the left line to get on and drive home two. The Wolfpack ended the top half of the second with a 4-0 lead.Â
- Through three innings of work, Maxton posted five strikeouts on the stat sheet.Â
- Neither team scored in the third, fourth, fifth or sixth inning but the Pack ended the drought in the top of the seventh after Taylor Ensley smashed a first pitch bomb to dead-center field to push the lead to 5-0.Â
- Maxton pitched the complete game and finished with seven strikeouts. She moves to 7-1 in the circle.Â
