
NC State Baseball to Play in Cannon Baller College Series; Takes on Davidson in Kannapolis

RALEIGH, NC – The NC State Baseball team heads to Kannapolis for a match-up with Davidson in the Cannon Ballers College Series on March 18th at 6 p.m. from Atrium Health Ballpark. The Wolfpack enter the midweek contest 14-6 after winning their first ACC series over Virginia Tech over the weekend. NC State will look to start a new win streak after the Hokies snapped their 11-game win streak on Saturday in game two of a doubleheader.
Last year, the two programs met in Charlotte, with NC State victorious 22-7. The Wolfpack come into Tuesday's game with 12 straight wins over Davidson, with the last win for the Wildcats coming in 2000. The Wildcats won the first meeting in 1940, 6-5, while NC State holds a 91-31 overall record in the series.
NC State leads the ACC and is 28th in the country in On Base Percentage, entering Tuesday's contest at .453. Freshman Ty Head leads the Wolfpack with a .643 OBP, which is third in the conference. The Freshman is also sixth in the nation with 24 walks, averaging 1.20 walks per game.

NC State has thrown three complete games this year; Ryan Marohn is just one of four pitchers in the nation to throw two complete games this season. Friday Starter Dominic Fritton tossed a seven-inning complete game against Virginia Tech, making NC State one of four teams to have multiple starters toss a complete game.
Pitching, as a whole, has been a strength for the Wolfpack this season. Their 18 strikeouts thrown against Canisius is the second most by an ACC team this season, only trailing Wake Forest, who had 20 in a game.
Freshman Anderson Nance will make his first collegiate start on the mound Tuesday night. Nance has made six appearances out of the pen and holds a 3.94 ERA. In 16 innings of work, Nance has nine strikeouts and three walks and is holding opposing batters to a .254 batting average.
Luke Nixon hit his first home run of the season in game two against Virginia Tech to secure the victory. He leads the Wolfpack in runs scored with 23, doubles (8) and triples (2).
Transfer Chris McHugh continues to make an impact in the Wolfpack lineup. Heading into Tuesday, McHugh has reached base in 13 straight games. His .400 batting average is 10th best in the ACC, and his 29 RBIs are third-most in the conference. McHugh has totaled eight games this season with multiple RBIs and seven games with multiple hits, including being the only Wolfpack player with a four-hit game and a five-RBI Game.
Head, McHugh, and Nixon have played in all 20 Wolfpack games this season in the same position.
Following the trip to Kannapolis, NC State will stay on the road and travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pitt Panthers for a three-game series over the weekend beginning on March 21st.
